Applied Process Technology, Inc. (APT) established Five Star Filtration in 2005 as a subsidiary whose initial goals were to introduce and establish a newly designed cloth disk filter into the municipal and industrial water reuse market worldwide. APT initiated this entire process at the urging of our customer base.
APT, established in March 1992, was primarily a continuous backwash upflow and downflow sand filter supplier in the same reuse water market. APT, including their patented downflow technology, installation list (comprised of over 250 installations worldwide), was sold to Blue Water Technologies in Hayden, Idaho in September 2006 leaving Five Star Filtration, LLC to operate independently as its own company. Five Star honored a 3 year non-compete agreement as part of the sale of APT. The 3 year non-compete expired in September 2009.
In September 2008, Five Star secured the State of California-Department of Public Health Title 22 certification for production of reuse water for unlimited human contact for its Five Star Disk Filter design. Currently, Five Star has over 40 installations with operating experience in excess of 8 years. Five Star received an expanded acceptance of the CA DPH for up to 12.75 gpm/ft2 in October 2011.
In January 2009, Five Star secured the State of California-Department of Public Health Title 22 certification for production of reuse water for unlimited human contact for its Five Star "Upflow" Sand Filter design. Five Star has more than 25 units operational.
